What to do if your sofa will not fit through delivery
Practical steps when a sofa reaches a doorway, stair or elevator and the crew cannot complete delivery.
The short answer
Stop the move if the delivery crew says the route is unsafe or the furniture cannot clear it. Record where it failed, then work with the seller on an approved alternative, return or exchange under your order terms.
Ask the crew which exact point prevented delivery. Take photos and measure the usable doorway, turn, landing or elevator opening. Note the dimensions of the rigid piece and its packaging. Do not force the frame through or risk damage to walls, railings or the item.
Check approved options
Ask whether the manufacturer permits removing legs, a back or another part, and whether the crew is authorized to do it. A sectional may have separate modules that can be carried individually. Removing a door leaf may help only if the leaf blocks the opening and the frame and next turn have enough space.
Contact the seller promptly
Ask about redelivery after an approved change, exchange for a smaller or modular model, return eligibility, restocking and failed-delivery charges. Get the answer in writing and keep the delivery record. Terms differ by seller and order.
Before choosing a replacement
Use the checklist and calculator to screen the new item, then send the measured bottleneck and largest-piece specifications to the seller’s delivery team. The calculator cannot certify a turn or override the crew’s assessment.
Check your own measurements
Room placement and delivery are separate checks. Confirm the route with the seller when it is tight.
