Understand when a removable door leaf may add clearance and when the frame or next turn remains the limit.
The short answer
Sometimes removing a door leaf creates more usable opening, but it does not enlarge the frame, the hallway beyond it or a tight turn. Measure both the present opening and the actual frame opening before making plans.
With the door fully open, measure the smallest clear width and height. Check whether the door leaf, closer or handle projects into the path. Then measure the frame itself and the space needed to rotate immediately after passing it. Removing a leaf may help only when that leaf is the limiting obstacle.
Ask before anyone takes it off
Get permission from the property owner or building manager where required. Ask the delivery service whether its crew can remove and reinstall the door, or whether an authorized professional must do so beforehand. Do not assume the crew will alter a fire-rated or building entry door.
Check the sofa construction too
Some legs or backs are removable under the maker’s instructions; fixed arms and frames usually are not. Ask for dimensions after any approved disassembly and for the largest packaged piece. Never modify a structural furniture part just to make a delivery work.
Plan for reinstatement
Confirm who is responsible for hardware, alignment and reinstalling the door, and check the return terms if the sofa still cannot pass the next turn.
Check your own measurements
Room placement and delivery are separate checks. Confirm the route with the seller when it is tight.
