Fit the sofa by day, the open bed by night, and the product through the entry.

Measure two footprints
Record the sofa’s closed width and depth, then its full open length. Tape out the open footprint with clearance to walk around and make the bed. Check nearby doors, tables, radiators, and TV stands.
Compare the sleeping surface
Look at mattress or pad size, thickness, support, and how often guests will sleep on it. A pullout mattress, fold-flat futon, and trundle-style sleeper solve different problems; try the mechanism where possible.
Try the conversion
Ask how much force opening requires and where cushions go at night. Check whether one person can operate it and whether bedding has a storage spot.
Measure the delivery route
Sleeper mechanisms add weight and may not disassemble. Request the packaged size, overall weight, largest rigid part, delivery service details, and return terms.
Compare full cost
Include delivery, assembly, mattress accessories, and likely return fees. Buy the mechanism and sleeping comfort for how you will use it, not simply the smallest closed dimensions.
